   Friedman discusses "Cursed Child"0 Comments

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child producer Sonia Friedman has spoken to The London Evening Standard about the upcoming theatre show.

  Accio Quote:
That’s what Friedman will do for Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, which opens next summer. She’s sworn to secrecy about the production but I ask if the hype makes it harder. “Everyone involved is aware of the responsibility but we mustn’t be daunted. We’re all from ‘the work comes before profit’ world — so long as we stick to that, we’ll be fine.”

   Friedman discusses "Cursed Child"0 Comments

Kirsty Lang has interviewed Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's producer Sonia Friedman on BCC Radio 4.

  Accio Quote:
Sonia Friedman is one of the most prolific and successful producers in the history of the West End and Broadway. This year she has been nominated for 20 Olivier Awards, one more than she has already won. They sit like chess pieces next to the half a dozen Tony Awards she has won, in her office above the shop at the Duke of York's Theatre. In her eyrie she talks to Kirsty Lang about risk and reward, the changing ecology of theatre, how she began producing - at the age of 3- and professionally in her early 20s. She has worked with a catalogue of great actors, directors and writers on, she thinks, about 140 productions, and we hear from three of them: Tom Stoppard, Mark Rylance and Richard Eyre. But has she, the editor of The Stage newspaper muses, perhaps become too dominant? And Sonia explains why she has supported the Good Chance Theatre in the Jungle camp in Calais.

Friedman tops "Top 100 Theatre List"0 Comments

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child producer, Sonia Friedman, has made it to position #1 on The Stage's Top 100 Theatre Power list.

  Accio Quote:
Sonia Friedman has enjoyed a number of notable hits in recent years – including Jerusalem starring Mark Rylance and The Book of Mormon – but in 2016, she went stratospheric.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was always likely to be a licence to print money. What has made it really special was that Friedman and her fellow creatives resisted the temptation to treat the production as a cash cow and created something truly magical, original and – above all – theatrical.

In addition to creating the year’s most popular play, she also has a fair claim to having produced 2016’s most anticipated musical in Dreamgirls. She is a phenomenon and now undisputed Queen of Theatreland.
