CONFIRMED: Fantastic Beasts starts filming today!0 Comments

Warner Bros. has let us know that filming for the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie officially started today!

  Accio Quote:
BURBANK, CA – August 17, 2015 – Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ highly anticipated feature “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The all new adventure is set in the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling in her best-selling Harry Potterbooks, which were adapted into the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.

Filming started today, August 17, at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” feature films.

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars as Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s preeminent magizoologist, who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” also stars Katherine Waterston (“Inherent Vice”) as Tina; Alison Sudol (“Dig,” “Transparent”) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) as Jacob; Ezra Miller (“Trainwreck”) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (“In America,” “Sweet and Lowdown”) as Mary Lou; Jenn Murray (“Brooklyn”) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (“True Detective”) as Graves.

Marking the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, the script was inspired by her character Newt Scamander’s Hogwarts textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The film is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight of the blockbuster “Harry Potter” features; J.K. Rowling; Steve Kloves; and Lionel Wigram.

Collaborating with Yates behind the scenes are: Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It,” the “Sherlock Holmes” movies), three-time Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“The English Patient,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Gandhi,” the “Harry Potter” films), three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Alice in Wonderland”), Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Tim Burke (“Gladiator,” the “Harry Potter” films), Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Christian Manz (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1”), and Yates’ longtime editor Mark Day (the last four “Harry Potter” films).

Warner Bros. Pictures has slated “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

The team behind the new JK Rowling movie, starring Eddie Redmayne, are filming at St George’s Hall.

They are using the city to double as 1920s New York, with Liverpool being the only non-studio location.

Today, those working on the movie sprinkled the steps with artificial snow as the location is dressed up as a magical wizards’ den.

A dozen classic cars - complete with US licence plates - were also delivered to help transform the city into a convincing replica of New York City.

Title page to "Fantastic Beasts" revealed!0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has been given a sneak-peek to the title for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie.

  Accio Quote:
The Harry Potter franchise had an iconic title design across seven novels and eight films. One glance and you instantly recognized those jagged, uneven letters, reminiscent of Hogwarts’ gothic towers, along with that telltale integrated lightning bolt on the stem of the “P.” Fantastic Beasts stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) as “magizoologist” Newt Scamander and is set in New York in 1926. Designers came up with a title treatment that recalls the Potter franchise, yet has its own strong and cryptic feel, with a serpent’s tail replacing the lightning bolt.

   "Fantastic Beasts" plot unveiled!0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has released the official plot to the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie.

To read it, simply highlight the space in-between the two Snitches.

^0^

Eccentric magizoologist Newt Scamander (Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) comes to New York (for a reason we won’t disclose) with his trusty weathered case. This case is one of those way-way-way-bigger-on-the-inside magical devices, and within are expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures from Newt’s travels around globe. He discovers the American wizarding community is fearfully hiding from Muggles (who are called “No-Maj” in the States, more on that here) and the threat of public exposure is an even graver concern than in the UK (remember the Salem witch trials?). Fantastic Beasts is the story of what happens when this uniquely skilled English wizard travels to wiz-phobic America and a variety of his creatures, some quite dangerous … get out of their case.

New information on the "beasts" of "Fantastic Beasts"0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has now released information on the beasts that could appear in the Fantastic Beasts movie.

  Accio Quote:
Niffler: A treasure-hunting creature attracted to shiny things, like belt buckles and gold teeth, and a favorite of Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne. “They have this wonderful love-hate relationship,” Redmayne says of Newt and his Niffler. “He’s incredibly aggravating and wonderful at same time. He’s a complete nightmare, yet Newt gets off on his playfulness and single-mindedness.”

Ashwinder: A pale serpent created from the embers of a magical fire if allowed to burn unchecked. You really don’t want them to lay eggs.

Lethifold: Particularly deadly. Looks like a dark cloak that glides along the ground and then suffocates its victims in their sleep.

Augurey: You’ve seen a phoenix before. This is the green-black Irish version, and its mournful cry signals it’s about to rain … or foretells your death. One of those.

Bowtruckle: A hand-sized stick-like creature that’s difficult to spot and usually lives in trees (which it will violently defend). This particular one lives in Newt’s pocket. (First seen in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix).

Crup: A wizard-bred dog with a forked tail that resembles a Jack Russell Terrier. Very loyal and will eat just about anything (so a bit like a dog then).

Merpeople: Rowling previously put a ferocious spin on the classic underwater-dwelling humanoid sea creatures. (First spotted in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).

Discover the secrets behind THAT photo!0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has released 5 facts behind the first image for the Fantastic Beasts movie.

  Accio Quote:
1. ARCHITECTURAL WIZARDRY: The Magical Congress of the United States of America is hidden from Muggle view inside the very real Woolworth Building (New York’s tallest structure in 1926). Wizards enter through an ultra-fast-spinning revolving door into a grand lobby. While this Fantastic Beasts stage is a rather massive 250 feet long and 50 feet high, the ceiling will be extended with special effects to reach nearly 700 feet to represent “an empty cathedral of light, a hugely impressive, brilliantly lit space,” says production designer Stuart Craig.

  Accio Quote:
2. THE PHOENIXES OF THE ORDER: J.K. Rowling’s screenplay included these four golden phoenix statues (two unseen) that bracket the MACUSA entrance, paying homage to those who died during the Salem witch trials – a major traumatic event in the history of American wizard and No-Maj (a.k.a. Muggle) relations. Notes Craig: “Throughout, the magical world is grounded in the context of the Muggle world, born out of things familiar and real.”

  Accio Quote:
3. GOLD, NOT JUST FOR SNITCHES ANY LONGER: Loosely based on the interior of the Gothic art-deco American Radiator Building in midtown Manhattan, the MACUSA design includes a heavy use of gold to “bring a richness to the decoration. Given that this is the seat of power of the government in the magic world, it’s appropriate that it is gilded.”

  Accio Quote:
4. MAGICAL HERALDRY: The official MACUSA emblem, based on the U.S. presidential seal, includes the etching of an American flag combined with an abstract phoenix.

  Accio Quote:
5. THE CURIOUS CASE OF NEWT SCAMANDER: Intentionally shabby and based on a fiberboard briefcase, Newt’s valise contains a world full of rare and endangered magical creatures and their habitats, which can be hidden from curious Muggles – and U.S. customs inspectors – with the flip of a secret switch in the latch. His wand, too, is deliberately simple and wooden (and contains no animal products, of course).

Character descriptions revealed for "Fantastic Beasts"0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has released character descriptions for the main characters of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts movie.

To read it, simply highlight the space in-between the two Snitches.

^0^

Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne):
An eccentric globe-hopping English Magizoologist wizard who’s far more comfortable around beasts and creatures than he is around other people. Comes to New York on a quest with his case full of magical habitats containing rare and endangered species.

Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein (Katherine Waterston):
An ambitious worker at the Magical Congress of the United States of America (aka MACUSA, the U.S. version of the Ministry of Magic) who meets Newt. Tina is relegated to an office well below her abilities after she stood up for the wrong person. She longs to fight for what’s right.

Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol):
Tina’s younger sister and roommate, a big-hearted free-spirit Legilimens who can read minds.

Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler):
An optimistic No-Maj (aka Muggle) factory worker/aspiring baker who gets introduced to the wizarding world when he meets Newt. Fun fact: He’s the Harry Potter franchise’s first Muggle main character.

Graves (Colin Farrell):
A powerful Auror and the right-hand man of the American wizarding world’s president.

Mary Lou (Samantha Morton):
The narrow-minded leader of the fanatical Second Salemers, a group looking to expose and destroy wizards and witches.

Credence (Ezra Miller):
Perhaps the cast’s most mysterious character. He’s Mary Lou’s troubled adopted son.

Heyman discusses "Fantastic Beast" diversity0 Comments

David Heyman has spoken to Entertainment Weekly about the film's diversity relating to skin colour.

  Accio Quote:
“Like all of Jo Rowling’s works, [Fantastic Beasts> is populated with a variety of people and that will be the same in this series over the course of the films,” Heyman says. “There will be people of various types of ethnicities. In New York in the 1920s, there was a segregation between white and black, the neighborhoods were largely separate, and that is reflected in [the film>. But the wizarding world is a much more open and tolerant society where people of color and different ethnic backgrounds exist harmoniously together. There are people of color filling this world in an organic way.”

ANNOUNCEMENT TRAILER FOR
“FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM”
TO BE UNVEILED WORLDWIDE ON DECEMBER 15TH

BURBANK, CA – December 10, 2015 – Warner Bros. Pictures will debut the first announcement trailer for the much-anticipated adventure “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” via worldwide satellite on December 15, 2015. The trailer will give audiences the first glimpse at a never-before-seen part of the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling.

Visit http://bit.ly/FantasticBeastsAnnouncementTrailerTease for a tease of the announcement trailer.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling.

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” blockbusters.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” also stars Katherine Waterston (“Steve Jobs,” “Inherent Vice”) as Tina; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) as Jacob; Alison Sudol (“Dig,” “Transparent”) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Ezra Miller (“Trainwreck”) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (“In America,” “Sweet and Lowdown”) as Mary Lou; Oscar winner Jon Voight (“Coming Home,” TV’s “Ray Donovan”) as Henry Shaw, Sr.; Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films) as Gnarlack; Carmen Ejogo (“Selma”) as Seraphina; Jenn Murray (“Brooklyn”) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (“True Detective”) as Percival Graves.
The film marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, whose beloved Harry Potter books were adapted into the top-grossing film franchise of all time. Her script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by her character Newt Scamander.

The film reunites a number of people from the “Harry Potter” features, including producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which was home to the “Harry Potter” films for a decade. Some scenes were also shot on location in Liverpool, England.

Warner Bros. Pictures has slated “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for worldwide release in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

David Yates discusses "Fantastic Beasts"0 Comments

In a new interview with Pottermore, David Yates reveals how the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was built around actor Eddie Redmayne.

  Accio Quote:
It was like putting a rock band together. We saw so many people. We got Eddie, he was our anchor and I knew once we’d got him, we had to build the world around him. The other characters in this world had to react to him, they had to have a chemical reaction with Eddie. So we went to New York and saw some really fine actors, a lot of them, over two or three days, one after the other in the same room, all of them with Eddie.

'Graves is the ultimate wizard so I wanted to take it to a level of 20s elegance with a touch of glamour, of fantasy. So I took a coat and I made it a little bit longer, I exaggerated the shoulders and I shaped it a little bit more. Then I made it out of a spectacular piece of cashmere that just kind of moved and had a lot of light,' she says.

Pottermore discusses "Fantastic Beasts" interiors0 Comments

Pottermore has released an article explaining how the Tenement Museum in New York was one of the inspirations for the interiors to the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie.

  Accio Quote:
The Tenement Museum, a five-storey high building of 20 apartments in which immigrants would once have lived. Walk into the right apartment and it’s like time traveling back to the 1920s.

  Accio Quote:
On the set of Fantastic Beasts, the influence of this place and this trip is obvious. The exterior of Jacob’s apartment could be modeled directly on one of these tenement apartment buildings. The red-brick walls of the Goldsteins’ apartment are just right. The little row of shops at the bottom of the residential buildings is accurate to the time. The production design team imported details of a bygone era to their own set impeccably – any historian would be spellbound.

Ilvermorny origins and houses revealed!0 Comments

J. K. Rowling has updated Pottermore with new information about the great North American school of magic, Ilvermorny.

Its creation:

  Accio Quote:
The great North American school of magic was founded in the seventeenth century. It stands at the highest peak of Mount Greylock, where it is concealed from non-magic gaze by a variety of powerful enchantments, which sometimes manifest in a wreath of misty cloud.

Founded by an Irish witch:

  Accio Quote:
Isolt Sayre was born around 1603 and spent her earliest childhood in the valley of Coomloughra, County Kerry, in Ireland. She was the offspring of two pure-blood wizarding families.

Names of the four houses:

  Accio Quote:
Horned Serpent – a ‘great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead’

Pukwudgie – ‘a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature’

Thunderbird – a creature that ‘can create storms as it flies’

Wampus – ‘a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill’

The sorting ceremony:

  Accio Quote:
The Sorting Ceremony is not the only major difference between Hogwarts and Ilvermorny (though in so many ways the schools resemble each other). Once students have been allocated a House they are led into a large hall where they select (or are selected by) a wand. Until the 1965 repeal of Rappaport’s Law, which enforced very strict conformity with the Statute of Secrecy, no child was allowed a wand until they arrived at Ilvermorny. Moreover, wands had to be left at Ilvermorny during vacations, and only upon attaining seventeen years of age was the witch or wizard legally allowed to carry a wand outside school.

School uniform:

  Accio Quote:
The robes of Ilvermorny are blue and cranberry. The colours honour Isolt and James: blue because it was Isolt’s favourite colour and because she had wished to be in Ravenclaw house as a child; cranberry in honour of James’s love of cranberry pie. All Ilvermorny students’ robes are fastened by a gold Gordian Knot, in memory of the brooch Isolt found in the ruins of the original Ilvermorny cottage.

  Accio Quote:
t’s been a lot of fun to come up with a look and a personality that has that element of other-worldliness; I’ve never had to do that before.

The costume for Seraphina has been this wonderful evolution in the hands of costume designer Colleen Atwood. She was great because she let me contribute. All of my rings, for example. I said to her that maybe [Seraphina> should have all these rings on her fingers.

I’m left-handed, actually, naturally, but I know that that’s a very magical trait. I’d be thought of as a witch years ago. So I wanted to really emphasize my left hand, and I thought we could put rings on it. Colleen was really into that idea.

“I'm Newt’s sherpa in New York, and I'm also the audience’s sherpa throughout the movie,” Fogler explained. “Because I'm not familiar with magic, my reactions are very much how the audience would react to these things. I equate the character to Nick Bottom in Midsummer Night's Dream. (Fantastic Beasts) is embedded in the classic fairytale themes. Just like Bottom, I'm a regular fun-loving guy who is very human, who gets pulled into this crazy adventure and who gets to play with the fairies and wizards and witches and creatures. “She’s basically a complete and utter magical empath,” Sudol tells EW. “She’s able to read people — so it’s not just reading somebody’s thoughts. She’s can read into someone’s story, she can see people’s goals. And so even though she’s able to do magic with her wand, a lot of her magic is actually internal, which makes her a different type of wizard or witch. And she’s incredibly fun, playful, joyful, and free-spirited, kind and wise, and also has a sort of stillness about her because she’s always tuning into people, so she’s quite an interesting character to play — very vivacious and lively, yet very centered and aware.”

How exciting!

Pottermore has released a new interview with Carmen Ejogo (MACUSA President Seraphina Picquery) where she discusses her love for her character's wand.

  Accio Quote:
‘It is so beautiful! I am so in love with my wand. Maybe subconsciously I willed the designers to give me the one with the big gem on it,’ she says, twinkle-eyed.

And then earnestly: ‘Ezra Miller was telling me that there are very different schools of wandmakers. He was quite taken aback by mine because he recognised it was made by a very different wandmaker than he was accustomed to. It really does stand out among the other wands.’

Pottermoe reveals the History of MACUSA0 Comments

Pottermore has been updated with writing from J. K. Rowling about the History of MACUSA.

  Accio Quote:
The Magical Congress of the United States of America, known to American witches and wizards by the abbreviation MACUSA (commonly pronounced as: Mah – cooz – ah) was created in 1693, following the introduction of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. Wizards worldwide had reached a tipping point, suspecting that they could lead freer and happier lives if they built an underground community that offered its own support and had its own structures. This feeling was particularly strong in America, due to the recent Salem Witch Trials.

Pottermore has updated its website to announce information about the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sound track.

  Accio Quote:
You hear the main theme song of the movie play when the main crew arrive at the MACUSA the first time and various other times. You hear this haunting kind of theme. If you had to say what is the theme for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for now and in the future, it would be that theme. I wrote it on my piano because I believe that if that kind of thing is going to be good, it should be done that simply.

New concept art from "FB" released0 Comments

Entertainment Weekly has released some of the concept art for the speakeasy that features in the latest Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them trailer.

  Accio Quote:
Once you enter through an alleyway (a poster with real eyes serves as the door), you descend underground to a bar that would have never been allowed in Hogsmeade. There’s self-pouring drinks, a band playing instruments unlike any you’ve seen before, animated “Wanted” posters of the club’s clientele proudly displayed on the walls, and a formidable goblin owner (Ron Perlman). “It’s a disreputable place with nicotine-stained tiles of an appalling character and a bit of lowlife that’s actually quite fun,” says the film’s production designer (and Potter series veteran) Stuart Craig. Basically, it’s the type of place that really doesn’t care about its Yelp reviews.

Yates discusses disgarded FB scenes0 Comments

In a new interview with Slash Film, David Yates discusses two "beautiful" scenes which sadly did not make it into the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie.

  Accio Quote:
One is Jacob coming home from the bank and he’s been refused the loan and Mildred, his girlfriend, is waiting for him. She runs up in the street to see him and she says, did you get the loan? And he says, no I didn’t get the loan. And she takes her ring off and gives it back to him. And she says, I thought you were getting a bakery and leaves him. It’s a really heartbreaking scene and Dan [Fogler> is beautiful in it.

  Accio Quote:
There’s another scene where Alison and Katherine [Waterston> sing the Ilvermorny song, the school song. I asked Alison would she write it, and she wrote this beautiful Ilvermorny school song. And they sing it together and the two boys, Jacob and Newt, they sit there and they watch. And as the girls perform this song, this ode to Ilvermorny, they slowly fall in love.

"A whole new adventure beginning"0 Comments

In a new interview with The Telegraph, David Heyman discusses how Eddie Redmayne was their first and only choice and how a new adventure is beginning.

  Accio Quote:
We’d found that new adventure we were looking for, and our own had begun. For all the enthusiasm we had in revisiting the world of Harry Potter, it did not come without hesitation. We were aware that some might view it as a cynical land-grab to milk an extra buck. No question, the film would not have been financed were it not thought that it might be profitable, but the decision to make it was borne out of a passion for this world and a boundless desire to return to it.

I was very nervous. Well, I don’t know if nervous is quite the word. I think to do anything out of one’s comfort zone, there has to be some aspect of it that feels inspiring and challenging in a positive way. Sure, the fear of failure is always a companion in my work, and for a lot of other people. I was very excited by it. I felt fairly confident, without trying to sound self-congratulatory.    "Fantastic Beasts" brings in $500m!0 Comments

Forbes is reporting that the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie has made $500 million worldwide in two weeks.

  Accio Quote:
With $161 million domestic, it is already the ninth-biggest domestic release of 2016.

f one wants to be a kill joy, one could point out that it will still probably end up as the lowest-grossing J.K. Rowling entry thus far, as (not even accounting for inflation) the $797m worldwide total of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is potentially out-of-reach.

"Fantastic Beasts" visual magic effects revealed0 Comments

Cinesite has released a video showing the computerized layer-by-layer graphics and effects used to create the magic inside the Goldstein sisters' New York City apartment.

  Accio Quote:
Cinesite returned to the world of Harry Potter, delivering just under 100 VFX shots including environments of prohibition-era Manhattan, set extensions and the creation of a magical dinner. Cinesite worked on all eight of the Harry Potter movies so the team led by VFX Supervisor Andrew Morley were well equipped to bring J.K. Rowling’s imaginary world from script to screen with production VFX supervisors Tim Burke and Christian Manz.

The team’s scope of work included the preparation of dinner in the Goldstein apartment, the suitcase that Newt uses to transition into different worlds and various CG environments of Manhattan.

The dinner culminates with the ingredients of an apple strudel descending in front of Jacob; the fruit is wrapped in layers of pastry, before the whole strudel is cooked to a brown crisp and descends hot and ready to eat onto the centre of the table. The shot was built with custom FX. Heavy animated texturing, shading and displacement work was required to give the appearance of cooking whilst the strudel floats through the air. Extra blend shapes were also added to allow the whole pastry to appear as though it shrinks down a little as it cooks.

Redmayne to narrate updated "Fantastic Beasts" book0 Comments

Pottermore has announced that Eddie Redmayne is set to record the audio for the updated Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them book.

  Accio Quote:
The digital audio book is available for pre-order from Audible UK, Audible US and Audible Australia now and will be released on 14 March 2017.

Redmayne, who plays Hufflepuff Magizoologist Newt Scamander in the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, popped by Audible HQ to narrate the audio book. But, with so much happening in the Wizarding World since its original publication, J.K. Rowling couldn’t resist updating some of the text.

Like the updated print and eBook editions, the audio book contains a new foreword from Newt Scamander himself, hinting at some of what happened when he visited New York City in the year 1926 and since. It also details six new beasts, along with all of Newt’s already well-known discoveries. It comes with wonderfully mastered sound effects, too.

   3 new "Beasts" revealed!0 Comments

Creative director Christian Manz recently explained at London's VFX Festival some of the creatures that did not make it into the Fanatstic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie.

  Accio Quote:
Scrapped ideas included a tree-forming lizard, which saw hundreds of small reptiles forming and reforming large plant-like structures (an idea tried out at the visual effects stage) and a deceptively good-looking fish, which actually held a secret...

  Accio Quote:
“We came up with this idea for a fish that looked like a beautiful fish – and then it leapt out of the water and you realise it’s a bit of a crap-looking fish, but surrounded by beautiful fish that are making it look like a big one,” Manz recalled.

  Accio Quote:
“The ice turtle – another thing of trying to explain away natural things as, maybe that is hidden under there,” Manz told the crowd.

"Fantastic Beasts" designers discuss the secrets0 Comments

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Colleen Atwood (costume designer), Stuart Craig (set designer) and Anna Pinnock (set dresser) for the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie discuss the film's "secrets."

  Accio Quote:
Another way that the architecture cleverly tied MACUSA to Hogwarts: “When you approach the main entrance of the Woolworth Building, which is a big Gothic arch, and you look right up into the point of that arch, there’s an owl carved in the stones and that [detail> for Jo Rowling must have cinched [the building as inspiration>. At one time, the script was written that the owl would actually come to life—it would animate, fly down and into the revolving doors and take visitors with it.”

Although Rowling specified how the exterior looked, Craig was able to take “total liberty” with the interior—designing a cathedral of light outfitted in the striking Art Deco style of the 1920s.

“The interior has a series of sharp windows at ground level—muggle windows with muggle businesses like lawyers and accountants and things,” explained Craig. “But once you go through the door, you kind of penetrate that layer and get into the inner core of it. And that’s where MACUSA, the headquarters, is. Below are five or six floors of basement, which is where the work is done, where bureaucracy functions.”

Atwood discusses "Fantastic Beasts" costumes0 Comments

In a new interview with Deadline, Fantastic Beasts costume designer, Colleen Atwood, reveals the inspiration behind the costumes that made it into the movie.

  Accio Quote:
I had a lot of weird photo albums, like pictures of college girls. It was a really different time for women. Women were really finally out there a lot more than they’d ever been before. It was fun research because you actually had photographs of people living life, instead of formal photographs. It’s really an exciting period of photography. I went a little bit later with Berenice Abbott and some of those New York photographers, for working people and things like that.

New deleted clip from "Fantastic Beasts"0 Comments

Yahoo! movies has posted an exclusive deleted scene from the Fanatstic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie.

  Accio Quote:
The exclusive clip shows Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), and her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol) as they track down the escaped Demiguise in a New York department store.

The fab four have located the ape-like creature that can turn invisible when threatened, but catching the thing as they inevitably find out is far easier said than done. As Newt explains, ‘its sight operates on probability. It can foresee the most likely immediate future.’

It then falls to Jacob, the only No-Maj (muggle) of the group to catch hold of the Demiguise, which he hilariously manages to do with disastrous results.

MTV has also released an unseen clip, this time of a new creature called the Runespoor.

The DVD is due for release on March 27th.
