Hello Everyone,

Well it’s been about 4 months now since I closed the site, I am sure you are all expecting a very good excuse as to why I just closed the whole site one day without any explanation, but sadly I won’t be able to give you anything substantial other then I had a bit of a breakdown about everything and one day decided to cancel my server package.

What can I say but everything went wrong for The Snitch in January when myself and other senior staff came to blows over ownership of The Snitch, I did try to make things work after they had gone, but sadly things just got worse and the stress of the whole thing got to me, I did plan to do things slow and let everyone know what I was going to do, but I had a miscommunication with my host and they pulled the plug one month early, I admit I still could have said something after it was done, I didn’t and I can’t tell you why, but I realise it was a very ignorant thing to do to all the members.

I have been running The Snitch since 2001 and this was the first time I have done anything like this, so all I can say to everyone including the mods and admins is I am truly sorry for what I did, it was wrong of me to close what some may regard as a home on the Internet and give no reasons why, but everything I built-up over the years was falling apart all at the same time and it was all too much for me.

With the above in mind, I do very much understand if some members feel too strongly on the matter and don’t wish to come back to posting here again, I did give the forum database to Wolf after I closed the site so he could contact other members to stay in touch and perhaps restart the forums, but he decided to hand the SQL database over to The Daily Snitcher, this being the site that members of staff who left The Snitch in January started. I did not expect Wolf to hand the database over to TDS for obvious reasons, but I guess he wasn't to know the whole situation and what's done is done, so if you feel your new home is with them, you are welcome to stay there.

I have no plans to fully reopen The Snitch at this time, that part of the site is to stressful for me to consider right now, but I am very sure the forums are here to stay and regardless if no one comes back, I am going to leave them online for many years to come.

No data has been lost since the site closed, I backed up the database one last time just before the server went offline,
everything is as it was the day the site closed.

I hope you all consider coming back, I am very, very sorry for everything that’s happened this year and I can only hope we can put that in the past and move on.

I hadn't long joined before you closed down, and although I had an email from 'the others' I never did join that forum, so all I can say is WELCOME BACK !!

Wow, Gary. You shocked me all over again. I must say I was a bit disgusted that the other forum merged the Snitch. I refused to be a part of it. But wow... I'm home again

Ahhh. Now this feels like home. I tried going to other site to keep in touch with my friends, but it didn't feel right. It's not really a forum. Anyway, I'm glad you're feeling better, Gary. I understand how you were feeling.

Don't worry about it. I'm glad The Snitch is back though. I wasn't on as much during the school year and when I came back and found out it was gone I was pretty upset. That other forum didn't even compare.

Gary, I'm so glad you're feeling better about everything thank you for putting the forums back up! It feels so good to be here again.

I find it HIGHLY coincidential that earlier today as I was driving on the highway I randomly thought of the Snitch. & then I get an email from you Head Moose. I have nothing against The Daily Snitcher & their members, but it just didn't feel right for me to belong to another forum simply because The Snitch was down. When the Snitch went down I took it as a signal for me to take my leave of the HP Forum world, but alas, the Snitch is back, so perhaps it's time I take back my resignation from the HP Online world.
& I do understand what you mean Gary, we've all had our low moments, I myself took 2 major hiatuses (sp...?) while my 6 years here.

Wow! Sadly enough, all the email and communication that I got from the knock-off forums stated that you had given them the forums to merge and that you were behind them merging the forums.

I joined the other forums trying to find all of the mods and regular snitch crew but fewever really got into it - i guess to them, like me, it was never 'home'.

I am so glad thesnitch is back up. As an on-again-off-again poster for years (I think I joined in '02 or '03), I hadn't been on lately... and one day I had an HP question, logged on, and -- what did I find? No snitch.net! I figured (although I couldn't believe it) that since the books were finished, people -- like me -- just hadn't been on in awhile, and the site closed. I tried to join a couple of other major HP sites, but they weren't the same -- and I was used to my snitch.net.

I am VERY glad thesnitch.net is back up. Life gets crazy sometimes, and I guess that's what Gary is telling us happened. However it came about, I'm glad you're back, Gary, and when I have things to discuss, fanfics to read, and Harry questions, you better believe I'll be coming here.

Okay, in my defense in all of this, I had no clue of the story behind you and the other persons Gary and I only found out about it a bit after. Nevertheless I went on to pass the SQL database to them but not to spite you in any ways, I just wanted to see the Snitch stay alive and did not want to see all the hard work that had been put in the forums until it closed suddenly go to waste and be lost.

I'm glad it was not lost and is back up. The Snitch is where I started my fanfics and where I met many fine persons here. I'd be remiss if I did not consider it home.

Gary, thanks so much for resurrecting the Snitch. When the site closed, I felt sad, but I was never angry. I'm so glad the forums are back and I'm happy that you intend to keep them around for a long time.

Well I must admit I wasn’t sure about how everyone would react, but I didn’t have to worry as I should have know you guys would be happy to see a return of the community. Thanks for the kind words everyone and also understanding, I felt so happy when I restored the forums and I can tell you all feel the same.

And also sorry to Wolf, he was not to know all the goings on with with myself the TDS staff, I would say he should be congratulated
for making the effort to bring the forums back for everyone , he only ever had the community in mind

hey, whatever your problems, im glad you have been able to solve some of them and are feeling better. its just so good to see the snitch back up and running again- the dark purple with golden boarders-makes my day! lol, especially now as i have loads of time to spend as i no longer have school work to be battling with! i nearly have my old homepage back again! xxx

Now I understand why did we get the invitation to the Daily Snitcher, but it's true it was never the same as it was here in the Snitch, and it is a very unexpected although pleaseant surprise to find it back up.

Good to here it's back. Though my registration date says different, I've been using The Snitch as my source for Harry Potter news since summer 2003. It saddened me when it closed down.

I'm glad the Snitch's back online. When I tried to get on the Snitch the last time, it was already closed and I was surprised.

Now that it's back, it does feel like home again.

I haven't posted in this forum for ages, but I always went on The Snitch... it was like a daily routine for me. When I found out that it had been closed, I was really heart-broken; The Snitch has kind of 'been' with me throughout an important part of my Harry Potter journey, so I was really saddened to see that it was closed. I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through those problems, Gary, and I hope things get solved soon! So glad to see that atleast the Forums are still here!

It felt so strange when I discovered that now we have two almost identical forums, but coming here after several months I felt home once again. I'm upset that old staff split apart but TheSnitch is Home and no more words needed to say.

Thanks for resurrecting the old forums Gary. I hope some day you and TheDailySnitcher forums' staff will find peace.

I'm glad the sites back up again. And yes It was a little bit of a surprise that the site closed down all of a sudden, but I'm just glad it's back up again. I was just thinking of the snitch the other day. Then I looked at my e-mails just today and found that the site had been re opened. Ofcourse I'm really glad and I PMed Gryffindorgal4hp on another site we're on so she knows to come back too. I'm really happy that this place is back up. And ofcourse we're all comming back. Hoiw could we not?!

I am very sorry but I have to admit that I visited the "other" site. I just couldn't resist.
Whenever I logged on however, it just never felt right! The forums there did never feel
as home as much as this site did, so after a while I just gave up on them. ...
I couldn't stop wandering what had happened to the snitch though! And when I finally
got the message that the snitch was back online I immediately set out to explore it,
to find it exactly as I remembered it! I am very sorry to hear about your problems
and I really do hope that you will find ways to sort everything out. I can't thank you
enough for reopening the snitch, and as others have said before, off course everyone
will come back, I already have contacted every snitch-member I am or was in contact
with and I'm positive that they'll come back, don't worry!

I am very excited that you are back on-line, I can only hope that one day you will return the site to what it was in its glory days. A site where ALL Harry Potter fans can come to find out what's happening in the wonderful world of Harry Potter, not just through forums. Because we ALL know that Warner Brothers is not likely to keep us up to date with what is happening. Thanks again for bringing some news back. I really do look forward to this site.

Gary, Thank You for returning the Snitch to the Greatness that it was before the problem.
I was one of the few that did change over to the Pensive and even though it did write
something like "The Snitch"it really didn't feel like the old home. However I did get to
a Forum Staff member position I will always keep on the Snitch since it is where all
of us are a large Hopefully Happy Family. If there is any problem I'm sure that hopefully
everyone can get together and work the problem out with everyone's help.
