Hi, everyone. I'm new to the forums. I have a couple of unanswered questions about the Dementors, and I am wonderinf if anyone knows the answers.

We know that as of Sirius Black's incarceration (circa 1981), Dementors were used as guards at Azkaban. Prior to Voldemort's first defeat, were Dementors used as guards for Azkaban? If not, who/what guarded Azkaban prior to Voldemort's first defeat?

The dementors were still guarding it, because in GOF, the pensive the dementors bring the prisoners in.

I think they've always guarded Azkaban, even before LV's first defeat. I don't think there is another creature who would be able to do it. Don't have anything to back myself up, but I reckon that's it.
