but what was it that Dudley saw?

Is it a memory of the school nurse embarressing him telling him he was over weight i doubt that could have such an effect on him

his meeting with magic
getting a pigs tail?
the tounge toffee?
i would probably think its one of them

But what was DD saying when he said something like i'm thankful that he (Harry) has escaped the terrible mistreatment you have inflicted on Dudley
??

I find this strange even Dudley looks clueless so i think that the thing thats happened even Dudley isnt even aware
But what can it be

I was thinking maybe Dudley has magical tendicies and that Petunia and Vernon stopped him getting his letter and going to Hogwarts

But i doubt that because Harry and Dudley would have got their letters together and there was no letter for Dudley always Harry

So what do you guys think?

i think that what DD was talking about was simply the fact that he was thankful to the fact that Harry hadnt turned out to be like dudly... spoilt, and has everything handed to him and knows the value of nothing where as Harry although he has been mistreated he has turned out to be exeptionaly loving and courageous. i think thats all he ment by that.

though i do agree with u that it is an interesting prospect of what dudley saw .... (are you meaning from the dementor attack in the ootp)?

he could of seen anything to be honest i do beleive we will soon find out tho... all questions will hopefull soon be answerd

Good topic, yet again BJB. You always bring up something new to discuss! Dudley probably did see one of the tragic events caused by Harry's connection to magic (the tail, toffee, ect ). Bex is right about what DD said. He's pleased that Harry turned out so well despite the living conditions he was raised in: he was neglected, but at least he wasn't a spoiled brat. He came out the better person. Seeing as how Dudders was so confused about DD's revelation, it seems very unlikely that that's what he saw.

I agree with you both about the dementors attack its probably his experiance of magic, it is pretty nasty not to say that he didnt deserve it hehe, i just remembered another one the meeting with the snake!
I wonder if Dudley ever got bullied by the sounds of him he would be i know he is a bully himself but Dudley seems a little strange like he goes quiet and shy around new people, ok i would if a 7ft giant came but whenever someone new has come he has hidden behind his mother true these people arent ordinary but is it possible he did? but his experianbce with magic are probably more worse

Yh it probably is the mistreatment as in meaning he got spoilt but i don't know why i just think its too simple and i think it could be something else (no evidence ) i just always thought that sentence was a bit more sarcastic kind of but at the same time with many things DD says double meaning.

I think Dudley saw something like the truth of what he's really like. His parents have really shielded him from everything, spoiled him and maybe he saw exactly what he's turning out as a human and that his parents have basically ruined him.

Great topic BJB. I think Hodor has a good point there. Maybe he saw the real world where not everyone can be controlled by his intimidation, maybe a world where he doesnt get his way and what he wants.

Or, on a random note, maybe he saw the death and destruction/fear the final battle would bring. Okay, seriously way of, ignore that

hmm that is very true he could have but isnt the dementor attack supposed to show you your worse memory but him seeing himself as he is i don't know thats not really a memory...

But maybe thats what DD meant when they said about ruining Dudley that they over protect him

It's not that they over protected Dudley, DD said what he did because they over indulged him. Gave him everything he wanted, instead of telling him "no". He was fat, lazy and a bully. The Durselys don't see it that way, but anyone on the outside can see it. Dudley is spoiled rotten.

Personally, I think what Dudley saw was himself use magic at an age that even he couldn't remember and his parents doing the opposite of what they did to Harry. Instead of "stomping" the magic out of Dudley, they bribed (indulged) him, and they've been bribing him so long he's forgotten why he's treated like a king.

Then again, his worse memory could be falling into the snake habitat, LOL who knows.
