It's about a woman named Alex who is married to Draco Malfoy. Draco has been gone for a year for a Death Eater mission, leaving his wife, Alex, alone with his son and daughter, sevenyearolds Tommy and Jill. This is a Songfic to SHeDAISY's Come Home Soon.

I put away the groceries
And I take my daily bread
I dream of your arms around me
As I tuck the kids in bed
"Mommy!" Alex jumped slightly. She realized she'd fallen asleep. She bit her bottom lip to fight back the tears. She'd dreamed that Draco and she were in the sitting room, he was reading the newspaper The Daily Prophet and she was reading a book, not taking all the words in, ready to jump up; just like they use to. Tommy, her son, almost always yelled her name - for the smallest of reasons, too. His sister, Jill, was the exact opposite. She was a quiet, sweet little thing and ever-so polite. "Mommy!" Tommy's voice woke Alex from the reminiscent of the dream.
She climbed the flight of stairs that led to her son and daughter's bedrooms, quickly wiping her tears away. It seemed so real. It's because you miss him so much, she told herself.
"All right then, you. You called for me to put you to bed, now you best get there," Alex said to her son. Tommy was seven and painfully resembled Draco. He had very light blonde hair, pale skin, and gray eyes. He smiled and jumped into his bed, causing Alex to smile; it didn't last long.
After dealing with Tommy, she headed next-door to Jill's room. Jill was waiting patiently, sitting up in her bed.
"I can always count on you to be my good girl," Alex said.
"Mommy, sing me Always Loved By Me," Jill requested politely.
"Aren't you tired of that song?" Alex asked, already knowing the answer.
"Nope," Jill said, smiling. Jill had Alex's long, curly, golden-blonde hair and sky-blue eyes. Though she had fair skin, unlike Alex's.
This was a continual bedtime ritual. First Alex would tend to Tommy, then come to Jill's room to find her patiently waiting. Then she would request for her to sing Always Loved By Me. If she didn't fall asleep during that, then she would ask Alex to tell her a story about Hogwarts. Jill particularly liked the one when a man known as "Mad-Eye-Moody" turned Draco into a ferret. Not because of this, but because it made Alex laugh, though Alex didn't know this was really the reason.
I don't know what you're doin'
And I don't know where you are
But I look up at that great big sky
And I hope you're wishin' on that same bright star
Alex sat on the window seat, staring out at the never-ending sky covered in dark storm clouds. It matched her mood perfectly, like at Hogwarts.
Dear god, please don't get me started on Hogwarts. A tear rolled down Alex's cheek and she pressed her face into her hands. She felt the cold metal of her marriage ring against her forehead. She stared at the ring. Sometimes it seemed to comfort her. The gold and the beautiful diamond reminded her that wherever he was, he loved her. Other times, like now, it seemed to mock her.
It seemed to say "Ha! If the only thing he left with you was a ring, then he couldn't have loved you too much! He shouldn't have gone in the first place!"
*But he had to! He didn't want Voldemort to kill Tommy and Jill! Neither do you!*
Oh lord, you just had to remind me of that, didn't you?
Lucius, Draco's father, had been the one to tell them. Alex felt that Lucius took great joy in being "the bearer of bad news". Alex was sure he could barely stop himself breaking into a huge grin as he announced the unless Draco went, Voldemort would kill Jill and Tommy. That took all she had to keep from smacking him while the corners of his mouth twitched upward the more he spoke.
I wonder, I pray
And I sleep alone
I cry alone
And it's so hard livin' here on my own
So please, come home soon
Alex walked downstairs, planning to go outside with Tommy and watch him play Quidditch in the huge backyard. Jill trotted closely behind her, a thick book clutched in her seven-year-old hands. Jill was a reader, which was why she was so quiet; she spent most of the time reading.
Alex smiled down at Jill. Jill always reminded her of a historic princess, she didn't know why, but she did. She always wore some sort of dress, and any color ribbon to tie back her curly, golden hair. "Would my little Princess like to be carried, or would that be too un-lady-like for your highness?" Alex asked upon reaching the bottom of the staircase.
"No, that would be thoughtful, my faithful servant," Jill replied. This caused Alex and Jill to break into a quick fit of laughter. Alex picked Jill up and proceeded to the backyard. Alex glanced in the sitting room for no reason. What she saw almost made her drop Jill. It was -
"MOMMY!" Alex woke with a start. It had been a dream. Just a cruel dream. Alex arm was stretched out in front of her. She saw the gold ring on her finger, the diamond and smaller jades surrounding it twinkled in the moonlight that was now flooding through the large window. It seemed to mock her again.
"Ha!" it said. "It was only a dream! He's never coming back!" She yelled in frustration and tore the ring off her finger. She flung it against the wall; it ricocheted off the wall and landed three feet to the right of the bed.
"MOMMY!" Jill's call came again. Alex cast the ring another murderous glare before going to Jill's aid.
I know that we're together
Even though we're far apart
And I'll wear our lucky penny 'round my neck
Pressed to my heart
"Mommy, is daddy ever coming back?" Jill asked. Her face was tearstained; she'd had a bad dream that Draco had been murdered.
"Ye-" she stopped. Would he ever come back? Sometimes she'd doubted. After all, it had been a year since he left. "I don't know," Alex replied after a moment. She bit her bottom lip and fought back tears as some slid down Jill's face. "Don't worry, my little Princess. Daddy is always here, don't worry."
"How's that?" Jill asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
"He will always be in our hearts, and he's a part of us, no matter what happens," Alex said, echoing what her mother had told her when her grandma died. She turned her head and quickly wiped away tears, hoping nothing ever happened to him.
"Mommy?" Jill said timidly.
"Listen, get some sleep. It was just a nightmare," Alex said, leaning forward and kissing Jill on the forehead. "Just think about happy things. Like ... reading, and riding Jezebell, that sort of thing." Jezebell was a horse Jill loved to ride when she went to her Aunt Shirley's house.
"I love you mommy," Jill said. Alex turned in the doorway and smiled.
"Love you too," Alex replied
I wonder, I pray
And I sleep alone
I cry alone
And it's so hard livin' here on my own
So please, come home soon
I still imagine your touch
It's beautiful missing something that much
But sometimes love needs a fighting chance
So I'll wait my turn until it's our turn to dance
Alex layed back down, staring at the moon. She saw the ring glittering on the floor, though this time neither mocking her nor comforting her. Just shining like a normal ring. She got up and placed it back on her finger.
She layed back down, facing the window. She could almost feel Draco's arms around her; his warm body against hers. She look to the other side of the bed stupidly, as she told herself, almost as though expecting to see Draco; his blonde hair practically shining white in the moonlight, his bare chest showing the still-present "Quidditch muscles" from Hogwarts. She was greeted by only a black pillow, the green covers, and an empty space that had been occupied by Draco only a year ago.
I wonder, I pray
I sleep alone
I cry alone
Without you this house is not a home
So please, come home soon
I walk alone
I try alone
I'll wait for you, don't want to die alone
God, Draco, please come back. It's just not right here without you.
Alex sat on the grass beside Jill, who was reading a book called Warriors: Fire and Ice. Jill was wearing a pretty gold-colored dress to match her hair and a pink ribbon.
Alex smiled while watching Tommy zoom around on his Firebolt. He loved that Firebolt.
So please, come home soon
Come home soon
Come home soon
Alex walked back to the Manor alone. Tommy and Jill went ahead of her; Tommy eager to play something else, Jill wanting to read more books. She went to the Library and stood in the doorway, watching Jill; who was curled up in an armchair, reading. Suddenly, she felt arms around her.
God, why can't you just leave me alone? This is practically torture. I mean, I can even feel his breath on my neck!
Then she realized those really were arms around her. Could it be-?
"Draco?" she said disbelievingly. He kissed her very passionately, neither minding that Jill had stopped reading to watch, or that Tommy had stopped dead halfway down the staircase and watched.
