I hate Umbridge! she banned Harry Fred and Gorge at Quidditch but not Malfoy!

I hate her! I don't think she is evil. She thought what she was doing was best for all concerned. We've all done that! Her authority was tested and Harry didn't resepect her as a teacher. I'm not saying I like her or anything. I just don't think she is working for Voldemort or truly evil! Did that make sense?

I can't stand her. From the moment we first met her in OotP to when she was in the infirmiry, I hated her. Gr. She really, really drives me insane with madness.

Ahh! Through out the whole book I wanted to strangle her and inflict as much pain as possible on here er um ... lol but I HATE! .. er, DISLIKE HER A LOT!

I think Hate is a bit strong of a word. Maybe strongly dislike would be better?

While I did not like Umbridge and thought that she was a bit much and was an unpleasant woman to be around (like Aunt Marge :ph34r: ) I don't know if I hate her or not. I think it depends on the next two books, if she's in them, and what she does.

She banned Harry, Fred, and George from Quidditch and not Malfoy, used that horrible quill for lines, was really unfair to Hagrid (and other half-breeds), and used her power to control almost every aspect of the student's and teacher's lives.
She definately got what she deserved at the end of the book!

I put I don't know because I sure hated her, and what she did during the books, but I also loved the way she was written. I mean, JKR really made a character that was so thoroughly unlikeable, you almost liked her because she was so unlikeable. OK I've just confused myself with that last sentence.

What I'm trying to say is that she was so well-written that I liked the scenes with her, but not what she did.

I can't stand her!! She's like a lot of real people in powerful positions who are absolutelt in love with their own self worth and ambition, and can't see past their own selfishness - and will do ANYTHING to further what they think is the right way!!
Even bully and abuse children!!
Wouldn't say she's evil or anything though! The character reflects too much of what a lot of people are like in real life for it to be that simple.

I absolutely hated her!! she was just a power hungry old toad. She was mean unfair and completely below the belt i hated her dumbledore shouldn't of gotten her from the centaurs.q='(

Yes she was terrible but she was great at being evil.
And you always need a good baddie to make the story work. And she did a perfect job doing that.

I hate her! I don't even love to hate her, I just hate her! Snape is a lovable mean character....Umbridge has not got a single endearing quality. She's not funny, sarcastic or anything but the pinnacle of all that I want to inflict pain upon!!

she was a very well written character but she was also a very hated person!!
-personaly i cant stand her!! she just didnt want to hear what Harry had to say so she made him write lines...and not ordenary lines! she was evil...but not in the same way as Voldemort! Banning Harry from quidditch was the worst though...and Fred didnt do anything...he would have if he could have...but he didnt!!

she was a great character and i hope we get to see more of her...even though she was horrible!

she is so narrow minded! and i really cant stand that in a person. she makes people feel small. shes a bully! shes just.... grr! she makes me mad!

but as a fictional character made up by the ingenious mind of jk... she is brilliant. i mean there arent many characters that you can actually hate. that you can actually feel a real emotion for. than in itself is a real achievement.

As a person I hate her, of course.
But as a bad character... Reading your reactions she is one of the BEST villains in the whole Literature! Yeah... a person that one can loath...

I'm inclined to agree with the post above me; as a villian, she was absolutely 'brilliant'. The hate she inspired in the characters, and in the readers is just amazing... Brilliant writing.

Yes! She is brilliantly written. How many people could write a character that so makes me want to inflict pain on them!

She's just horrible, there aren't other words for it! And she'll never be 'good' anyway. She needs a loooooong time in St Mungo's

I think she's one of those characters you love to hate, if you know what I mean.

I definitely hate her. She is sadistic, and I do think she's evil for what she did to Harry at detention. The decrees were stupid and unfair, but she definitely crossed the line there.

I don't think she has any redeeming qualities at all. I think she's the depiction of ignorance and close - mindedness. After all, she didn't believe what Harry said about Voldemort. (neither did Fudge, and I don't like him, either, but he's not evil, just narrow - minded)

I liked her because she made things exciting throughout the whole story. I was kind of exciting to see what she would do next and I like characters like that. If she was a real person, I wouldn't not like her, but I like her as a character in the novel.

Ugh! She was so hideous that I felt bad for the ugly kittens on the ornamental plates, having to live with her

Umbridge will go down in history as an extremely well written character. One that definitely inspires hatred. She IS evil, make no mistake. She knew how very unfair she was being, especially to Harry.

She got what she deserved in the end, and we really don't even know what that was. I hope we find out.

And I hope she never comes back!

Absolutely right!! I think she perfectly knows what she was doing, is just one of those persons who didn't care about the consecuences in order to obtain what she wants.

I hate her for what she did to Harry and all the other people.

I hate her. Umbridge is a cruel, sniveling little git who should have someone perform a cruciatis (if thats how you spell it) curse on her. Or maybe they could throw her in the lake with some Gillyweed and leave her to the Grindylows and Merpeople just so she could breathe long enough to feel the horrible pain that she so willingly has laid apon herself. But like someone else said... "she makes a good villian"

She really was perfectly written for hating. I mean, she was judgemental based on a persons blood, species, associations (i.e. people close to Dumbledore or Harry), and on top of that she had no boundaries she wouldn't cross. She set Dementors on Harry, used an Unforgivable Curse, had that evil quill for detention...
Everytime I read something about her character I found myself fuming. Which was also good writing, because that's exactly what Harry and the others were going through. They hated her, but were powerless to fight her. Grrrrrrrr, so frustrating!

but evil??? well, I don't think she's evil in the way that she's in connection with Voldemort, but you can have an evil mind, and I think she has.... Sending Dementors after Harry so they can "kiss" him etc... hmm, to me that's evil!

Umbridge was not evil in the sense of Death-Eater evil, or even as bad as Voltemort--she was just so wise in her own eyes, so swept away in her own ego that she would not see the truth about Harry & the Order (except for her admitting that she sicced the Dementors upon Harry).

Umbridge is a " foul, loathsm, evil little cocaroach" as hermione would say(i know she didn't say that to her but to draco). She has the worst temper. ANd she is so evil. Worming her way up to jead mistreess.She most likely told harry he could never be an auror because she know he'll be really good at it. And he is like the best student at DADA, and some other subjects, but Snape, I think he's trying to fail him on purpose.

If Umbridge is good,then I love muggles like Arthur weasley (and that's far off) !

I just plain simple hate her "ahems", her "educational decrees",not forget she banned the weasley twins and harry from quidditch!what she did to the DA!,what she did to DD,she sent the dementer to surrey,and all her other mean aspects are not to be over looked!

oh yeah and how she read harry's mail and almost caught sirius,how she wanted harry to drink the truth potion!and so on...........

There is no way that Umbridge could be considered "good" at the moment given what we know of her from OoTF. That doesn't mean that she won't do some good in the future though.

Umbridge is one of the few characters that get me so emotionally involved. I really loved to hate her. I would chat for hours with my friends about how evil she was, as if she were a real person. For this I love her, she is a well designed character. But she got too power hungry, power often corrupts people and it definitely corrupted Professor Umbridge. She was a vile, close minded, mean spirited person and I would not want to know some one like her.

she was so determind to get back at harry because the ministry didnt want to believe him. she was evil making harry cut himself open everynight, thats worse than the old punishments! she wasnt willing to give harry a chance to prove himself. and why was she so against the griffindors? im sorry but out of all the people from the ministry they had to pick her why? im sure others could have done the spying but not done it in such an evil (for lack of a better word) way. then again, the story line wouldnt have been so gripping

they had to choose her - she was so dead against the story of voldemort being around still and would do anything to make the story seem proposterous. i hated her though - i have never felt so strongly whilst reading a book as i felt when i was reading ootp!!!

I really hate her to!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
