Late to the party as usual but of course, I have to say Snape.

He took on the insults and hatred of both sides, managed to fool the Dark Lord and Harry Potter. He had to keep emotional distance from everyone except the one person whom he could no longer be with, Lilly.

He is sarcastic, smart and a little dark. What is not to like about Snape?

Anyone that knows me, knows that my fave character is Snape, I love the mystery that revolves around him! I've always defended him and I think that deep down his good, he was evil but the regret over causing Lily's death changed him, and despite the fact that his mean to Harry I think he cares for him, deep down. And of course I always thought he was in love with Lily, i was so glad to be right!

Its so difficult to pick just one character as a favourite. JKR does such an amazing job of setting out the main characters with these deep, fascinating backgrounds and distinct personalitites, but then she tells us so little about the "bad guys" that we can obsessively argue about them for months on end because we really know nothing about their personalities. I've also ready too much fanfiction to objectively pick favourites simply based on canon ro the movies.

I love Hermione inthe books and she is my favourite character to play with in fandom, but in the movies (at least up to movie 6) she is just plain annoying with the level of know-it-all-itis the directors and writers created by giving her everyone else's lines.

I love Severus Snape for the roll he accepts. He is brave, cunning, selfish and unrelenting. I love to play with him in fanfiction, will defend him against anyone who tries to tell me he was less than a hero, but I am not deluded into thinking he's a nice guy.

I love Harry. Love how he accepts the fate he's been given without question. how until book six he never even seems to wonder why its his responsability. I love that in book seven he mentally prepared himself to die for the sake of everyone, and didn't even consider running away or taking backup. Considering the life he had as a small child he is amazingly trusting and confident in the wizarding world and he breaks my heart a little (in the best way) whenever I read the books.

and of course .... I love Luna, and Mr. Weasley and the Twins for the humour they bring to the stories.

all of them have such histories and are all so complex!

My #1 is the one and only Severus Snape He's just so real, so three-dimensional chcaracter( I think one of the few in the series), there's both evil and good in him:) I know he's vindictive, selfish, cruel and so on but there's something good about him, something that makes him stand out from the crowd.. somewhat unpredictable too. Sometimes I feel like slapping him too, I mean the guy tends to wallow in self-pity too much I only wish JKR had given him a second chance to have a life he deserved and for some happiness too. It was only too predictable that he had a thing for Lily, though ;/

I like Dumbledore too. But only thanks to the last book. He had been too much of a good guy, it rubbed me up the wrong way...same with all those goody-good characters - Hermione scares me, honestly. The movie-version Hermione annoys me, really, her attitude is too much to bear, and she's all too girl-power. Ron's cool though.

And I know I might be asking for trouble but I'm a great fan of the DE gang, Lucius Malfoy (he's wife's...soppy) and Bella totally rock:) and Voldie's soooooo seductive and so evil that he makes me like him in a wrong and sick way, like I know I shouldn't but I can't help myself. He's very predictable though, very.."flat" for the want of a better word. I mean you just know he's obssessed withh the thought of throttling of Potter and it sort of may become boring to see him fail again and again:)




harry potter should have died really. and I mean it, it would make the book more belivable, and maybe then I'd not perceive him as a sloppy, succeeding-at-everything kind of guy. he's too selfless, too good, too...too much really. and the ginny episodes are just exceptions corroborating my theory
