no i wouldn't of been able to solve it either but harry had a choice didnt he? the sphinx told him that he could hear the clue once and if he didn't get it he would've been able to walk away and find an alternate route to the cup. that's probably what i would've done.

Normally, I would have been able to solve it eventually, but faced with Sphinx, I'm not sure I would have even stayed around to hear it! I am NOT Gryffindor material.

i think i would have been able to solve it,although i AM NOT gryffindor material.i just have one of those minds that can pick out the important stuff in a load of junk.i don't know,i mean it's a sphinx.i probably would've freaked out and cast a spell on it,which would've been illegal,and i probably would've fainted.but if i didn't have fear,yes,i would have solved the riddle.

I thought the riddle was fairly easy. It's the rest of the maze I would have messed up in.

I certainly managed to figure out a bit of it but I read the solution because I was so eager to find out
 But of course facing the Sphinx and trying to figure out the riddle is something completely different than sitting in your cosy living room and reading the riddle and having no pressure at all (except the surge to read on).

I acctually read and re-read the riddle several times untill I got it before I moved on then realised Harry had the solution but it did take me a while . . . more then a while lol. But when I got it I was like THATS EASY!! lol as you normally do.

I agree in the not wanting to kiss a dementor thing.
I'm not that smart. If I was in the maze, I would've completely messed that that up, and then be killed my the sphinx. Actually, now that I think about it, I would've tried to stun it before even getting the question, andthen be killed by the sphinx. Yeah. -sum1special |

That's really difficult to answer. I've never been in such a situation so I have no idea how I'd react ...
At home it's quite easy to solve such a riddle if you think about for a couple of minutes but actually standing before a creature such as a Sphinx? Well, I'm not sure if I could think logically then ... -------------------- Probably the greener grass on the other side is just artificial turf. That riddle was easy, it took me under two minutes to solve. The only hard bit was the second clue but I figured it out. I have heard riddles like that were the answer is a letter, eg I'm the end of time and space. I'm the beginning of everything. What am I ?

Even whilst reading the riddle in the book I couldn't solve it, let alon when faced with a Sphinx! I, like many others, thought of a dementor for the last part of the riddle.
Perhaps if I spen more time I would've figured it out, but I was too eager to read on!
