CHAPTER 63
©Hanna '12
“You were here all of yesterday, I can’t believe you didn’t water Gran’s plants.”
“Scorpius looked over at his sister fussing over the potted plants near the window. “I was busy and sort of forgot,” he mumbled the rest hoping she didn’t hear. “I’ll take care of them before we leave.”
He reached into the box again when his sister turned her back and went on watering the plants. He heard a snicker come from Albus who quickly quieted at his glare.
Albus cleared his throat. “So when are your grandparents returning?”
“In another week or so,” Scorpius answered. “We’ll be able to ask Granddad what we need then.”
Albus nodded as he took out a stack of rolled up paper. He unfurled them, “What are these?” he asked tilting his head sideways to study the drawings.
Scorpius crawled over to his friend’s side as the drawings were laid out on the floor. “Er, drawings by Papous, apparently…but they appear to be from the days he was a professor. They’re from a dig site or something.”
“Do you think they’re important, they were in the box…” Albus took up another sheet of paper. “He had a good hand at this, drawing.”
“The walls of his office were littered with drawings all the time. Sometimes of a particular dig he had been on or something he was studying at the time. He was often consulted even after he retired from the university.”
“He was greatly respected,” Valor said, watching water spout from the end of her wand aimed at the ficus in the corner. She turned and crossed the room to Albus and Scorpius to look at the drawings they had laid out side by side. “Is that a tomb?”
“Yeah,” Albus said. “Of whose, I couldn’t wager a guess.”
Valor bent down and picked up a drawing. Scorpius, who was watching her, took his sister’s arm. “What did you see?”
“It’s hers. These are drawings of tomb. I saw Papous at his desk drawing these.” She dropped the paper and grabbed the diary from the couch. Her fingers found the pages as if they knew exactly where to look. Pages open she held it out to the boys.
He read, “’
I have completed the final of six drawings. They have haunted me since our last visit…they had to be committed to paper. When Kiya returns, we must talk. The boy – Harry Potter – he must be placed aside for Kiya may not see what is to come if she is wrapped in the boy’s fate.’”
Scorpius looked over at his friend. “Your dad knew GG but did he ever say how they met?”
With a thoughtful expression, Albus shook his head. “No and I’ve never asked. I always assumed it was through Auror business.”
“Rose read that other book – your GG’s book – didn’t she say their stories ran parallel to each other?”
Scorpius nodded. “Yes, but never connected. I think we need to talk to your dad, mate.”
Albus got to his feet. “He takes lunch about this time, maybe we can catch him.”
They piled everything back into the box to return for it later.
They arrived by Floo to the busy atrium of the Ministry. They paused at the wizard desk and gave over their wands.
By the time Scorpius was done and walking up to Albus and Valor the two were in a heated discussion which came to an abrupt halt at his arrival.
“What? What’s with you two?”
Valor glanced at Albus and then her brother. “Nothing. Albus, lead the way.”
Scorpius frowned down at his sister when she grabbed his sleeve. Looking over her shoulder, she pushed him along behind Albus.
“Quit pushing, Val.”
“We – we wouldn’t want to miss Mister Potter, move on.”
Albus glanced worriedly over his shoulder too, but it wasn’t at the siblings, it was at something beyond them.
They caught one of the lifts to Harry’s office only to meet him in the corridor just exiting his department.
Harry turned and smiled when he spotted them coming his way. “Well, hey there, son. Scorpius, Valor, good to see you.”
“Hey, Dad.”
“Hello, Mr. Potter,” Scorpius said while his sister settled for a smile and wave.
“Were you here for Rose, I believe she’s gone to lunch already.”
“Oh, er, no,” Albus said quickly. “No, we came to see you actually.”
“Well this is special indeed. Why don’t I take you all to lunch?”
“Oh, that’s –“
“That’s great, Dad. Where to?”
They started down the corridor together. Every so often a witch or wizard would greet Harry with a ‘how do you do’ or a quick word, and then went quickly about their business.
They hit the busy streets of London after walking up a quiet side street away from the Ministry’s entrance.
Harry held the door open to a small sandwich shop where it appeared far enough out of the way to only be frequently by locals.
Valor chose a table and everyone sat.
“You took time out of your busy summer schedules to stop by to see me?” Harry said jokingly.
Before anyone could answer, their server came to take their orders.
“We actually came to ask you a quick question, Dad.”
“But now we feel we’re being rude having you treating us to a proper lunch,” Valor said.
Harry chuckled. “Cythera and Draco has undoubtedly fed Al’s bottomless pit a hundred times over over the years, what’s one lunch. Also, I had sort of figured this was more than a visit when you said you weren’t by to see Rose. Care to jump in directly or talk about other things first? I’m sensing this is potentially serious.”
“Er…” Scorpius looked at Albus with a shrug.
“Why don’t we jump in because we don’t know how long the discussion’s going to be,” Albus suggested to Scorpius.
“All right,” Scorpius said. “Sir, you knew my Great-grandparents…”
“Kiya and Gideon, yes.”
“How did you meet them?”
Harry took a sip of his soft drink that had been brought to the table. “I met Gideon through Kiya years after I’d met Kiya, and I met her when I was seventeen. We met after I vanquished Voldemort. She was in the Order, but I had never met her until then, after the battle.”
“After –“
“Clearly, she had a vision, Scorpius,” Valor interrupted.
“What are you talking about?” Harry asked the three.
Scorpius reached into the many pockets of the khaki shorts he wore and took out Gideon’s diary. He opened to the passage that had brought them to Harry, and turned it so that Harry could take and read it.
“We haven’t found any more written by Papous about you, but we do have another book where you were referred to written by GG. Clearly, she had spoken of you to Papous.”
Harry handed the book back to Scorpius. “Kiya did have premonitions so it is quite possible she discussed me with her husband.”
“Did you know she knew Cassandra?” Scorpius asked.
“Cassandra?
The Cassandra Trelawney?”
“Yes, sir. Cassandra mentored GG for a year at Hogwarts.”
“All right. I’m not sure where this is going. Cassandra was long before my time. I only knew her granddaughter Sybil, when she taught at Hogwarts.”
Valor sat forward and spoke. “Papous wrote a fact-based novel about GG’s life, but as a fantasy-based novel for Muggle publication because of the magic…you’re threaded through a lot of the later years because from all we have read, you were n underlying force in GG’s life for a time because of the Tom Riddle connection.”
“I see – no, I don’t see. What is it you’re asking?”
“We simply wanted to know when you had met GG and Papous.”
With an expression of clear frustration, Harry said, “As I told you, I was seventeen when I met Kiya. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I met Gideon, and eve then I was introduced to him through your grandfather, Mikolas.”
“Aunt Hermione knew Professor Gideon –“
Harry nodded as he bit into his lunch. “Hermione knew Gideon through his books, not the fantasy ones, but the very large educational ones. She had met him at a lecture he gave, speaking about one of his latest books.”
“Do you remember which book?” Valor asked.
“You would have to ask Hermione, but she did say there was something odd about his books and writings. I’m going to assume it was because his work was tangled with magic, and later confirming when we learned who he was married to.”
Do you remember when that was because we can determine which book…”
“Not the when, no, but she claimed it was a sequel to one of his books she had read – lots of detailed understating of magic, rituals and such. Much, much more than an ordinary Muggle should know. So she sat in on the lecture and saw Kiya in the audience, who introduced her to Gideon.” Harry pushed her plate aside and sat back, peering at each teenager in turn. “Maybe Hermione is who you need to be speaking to.”
Scorpius grimaced. “I was beginning to think the same thing, sir.”
Harry grinned at Scorpius morosely stated words. “Hermione likes this kind of stuff, don’t let her fool you. Of course she will be concerned if it involves her children but she is someone to have on your side if you’re looking to solve a mystery.”
“I’m trying not to involve Rose – it just –“
“Happens? Yes, I understand how that is. Scorpius, what are you trying to solve now?”
“We,” Valor said. “We – Scor and I – and though I’ve asked him to butt-out, Albus, are trying to solve my parents’ murder.”
“Val,” Scorpius growled.
“Look, telling Albus’s dad will likely get him out of our trouble so I –“
“No it won’t,” Albus said dangerously quiet. “I told you I would help and I am going to.”
“We talked about –“
“No, you talked, I then told you –“
“Hold it!” Harry put a hand between the bickering couple, and lowered his voice because they were attracting attention. “First, what about your parents’ murder?”
Albus sat back with a frown. Clearly, he had not told his father what he was up to and Valor gleefully jumped on that fact. “Sir, I told Albus he could not be involved in this particular endeavor. Scor has circled around Rose in getting her uninvolved in our mess, but your son is very stubborn.”
“Oh, stubborn, am I? You –“
“Stubborn, is what I said, Albus Potter. I don’t want anything to happen to you. And your argument of nothing will happen to you – well, there’s always a first time and I can’t…” Valor trailed off on a sob. She stood up and excused herself.
Albus went quickly after her.
Scorpius sat with his mouth agape until Harry claimed his attention by clearing his throat. “Er, I suppose this is still bothering her more than I realized.”
“Still? You’ve known about your parents for a time?”
Scorpius looked away from the window where he could see his sister and Albus standing on the street as people passed them by. “Yes, sir.”
“Anything to do with you disappearing act last fall?”
“Everything to do with it.”
“And that’s why all the questions?”
Scorpius nodded. “We have narrowed down to a couple of suspects and one is looking really good, but there are too many years…”
“Where did you go, Scorpius?” Harry asked, keeping an eye on his son outside.
“We…” Scorpius started hesitantly. “We were called to a future by my younger sister and brother.”
“A future?”
“My sister being a Seer, I’ve learned the future is subjective and with time travel and visions, nothing is written in stone. We can watch the signs, live as we are meant to, but we can change things with fore knowledge.” Scorpius rubbed his forehead; he was beginning to feel poorly. He closed his eyes. “My parents are good people, and Alex and Sephy deserve to have them longer than three short years.”
Scorpius opened his eyes and focused on Harry. “Val and I have or rather we’re trying to get Al and Rose out of this, but they won’t listen.”
“It’s upset Valor for sure.”
Scorpius glanced out the window again. “She rarely uses tears to get her way, and she isn’t manipulating Al, it’s –“
“I know Valor isn’t manipulating Albus, Scorpius. She is a sensitive young woman.”
Harry got to his feet and paid the bill leaving money on the table. “Let’s see if they’ve worked things out.”
Scorpius got up and looked at Harry when Harry patted his shoulder. “Things will work out and I know you’ll save your parents. Albus will do as he likes, I can’t stop him, but know if you need any more help or have questions, I’ll give you help, you need only ask.”
“Thank you, sir.”
They stepped out of the shop and found Valor in Albus’s arms. The tears look to be over. Harry silently handed her a handkerchief.
“Sorry for making a scene, sir.”
“It’s alright, made for an entertaining cap to lunch,” he said with a smile. “Are you three coming back with me? I believe Rose is off after –“
“No!” Albus and Valor said quickly.
“No, sir, we have to get back to my grandparents’ house,” Valor explained. “We have books to put in order and plants to water.”
Scorpius watched his sister and Albus. They were acting odd again.
Even Harry was looking at them strangely. “All right…well, you three try to enjoy the day, it’s actually nice out.”
“Sure, Dad.”
“Thanks for lunch, sir,” Scorpius said.
“You’re welcome.” Harry went one way, toward the Ministry, while Scorpius, Valor, and Albus went another to Apparate from public eye.
Back in the library, Scorpius gathered up the drawings they had left out and began rolling them together. He sat on his heels, and looked at Albus. “So are you going to tell me what’s the deal between you and Valor?”
“I told her I was going to help you with this because –“
“No, not that, because I’m on her side on that point. I’m grateful you and Rose want to help, but the risk is too much this time. I am referring to your behavior at the Ministry building and then again after lunch.”
Albus glanced around the room. Valor was in another part of the house so he was on his own. “I just wanted to get things over with because Lily wanted to practice this evening.”
“You’re lying.”
“I am not. She asked this morning before I came over.”
“Not about Lily, Al, it’s something else.”
“You promised never to –“
“I’m not reading you. I’ve known you a long enough to know when you’re lying, mate. No empathy needed.”
“Scorpius, stop grilling Albus,” Valor said, walking into the room with a tin of chocolate biscuits.”
Scorpius turned on his sister. “All right then. I’ll grill you instead. What is with you two?”
“Don’t know what you mean,” she said, offering the tin to Albus who took a biscuit.
“Fine, clam up then.” Scorpius banded the drawings together and placed them back in the box.
They turned to the open terrace doors when they heard the arrival of someone Apparating. Rose smiled as she walked into the coolness of the house.
“Hi,” she greeted.
Valor dropped onto the couch. “Hey.”
“Hey,” Albus said and quietly turned to go up the small staircase to look through the books on the upper shelves.
Scorpius kissed her cheek when she sat beside him. “How was work today?”
“Good. I got to sit in on a meeting and the Minister was in attendance. Mum even introduced me.”
“That’s great.”
“Yeah, so great,” Valor chimed in. “We were by the Ministry today.”
Rose glanced over. “Really, did you come to see me?”
“Nope, we were there to see your uncle,” Valor said irritably.
“Uncle Harry?” Rose looked at Scorpius. “You found something?”
Scorpius eyed his sister, but reached in the box for the drawings he had just replaced. “We found these and we took a side trip to ask Mr. Potter something. It kind of turned into a dead end, but he did say we should talk to your mother.”
“My mum?”
With a grimace, Scorpius nodded. “Yes, he said she is or was into Papous’s books and she may be of some help.”
“But you don’t want to involve her?”
He shook his head this time. “We don’t want you and Al involved, but that doesn’t appear to be working so we are where we are.”
“Yeah, we are where we are,” Valor grunted in her continued rudeness.
“What is your problem now, Valor?”
Valor glared at her brother. “I haven’t got one, but you’re about to.”
With that, she flounced from the room.
“Er, are you two arguing again?” Rose asked.
Scorpius shrugged. “We will be if we aren’t. She’s been all over the emotional map this afternoon.”
“Okay. Well, what’re these – a tomb?”
“Yes. Papous drew them but we’re looking into who it’s for or where it may be located.”
Rose nodded. “I see why Uncle Harry said Mum may be of some help. She followed your great-grandfather’s work when she got to know him.”
Scorpius smiled and shook his head. “You could have told us all this is we had just waited instead of us all this if we had just waited instead of us going to Mr. Potter.”
“Do you think he’ll go to my Mum?”
“No,” Albus said as he descended the stairs. “He wouldn’t go running to Aunt Hermione.
“Yeah, he sort of wished us luck and offered help should we need it.”
Albus paused at the center of the room. “When’d he do that?”
“After you and Val went outside.”
“Oh.” Albus nodded and disappeared the same way Valor had minutes before.
Scorpius shook his head. “What is with them?” he murmured.
“Why don’t you ignore them and tell me about your talk with Uncle Harry.”
*
Scorpius parted ways with Geoffrey when they got upstairs, Scorpius going to his room and Geoffrey to his. The dark had brought their game to an end.
Scorpius toed off his trainers and tossed the ball into the nearest chair. His head was stuck in his shirt but he heard his sister’s ‘ew, gross’ before the slamming of the adjoining door. He shrugged and turned on the water in the tub.
He took a quick bath and then dressed for supper. He opened the doors to let the steam disburse, and saw Valor at her computer.
He hadn’t spoken to his sister in two days, not exactly a record but they were at home, completely different from being at school, especially with all that was going on. So in what he felt was his brotherly duty, he went over to her room to bug her.
“What are you doing?”
She glanced over her shoulder at him. “I’m talking to Soleil.”
“Yeah? Tell her hello.”
“Yes, all right,” she muttered, her fingers flying over the keyboard.
Staring at the back of his sister’s head, Scorpius scratched his before asking, “Are you angry with me for some reason?”
“No, Scor.”
“Are you –“
“Yes. Can you leave me be, please?” she asked, without turning to face him.
“I can but I’d like to know –“
Her fingers slammed the keys. “Later, okay?”
Scorpius exhaled. “Yeah, later.”
He closed the door and gave his sister the privacy she had asked for. It was much later, after supper, the early hours of a new day before Valor came to his room. He happened to still be up doing school work.
“Keep an eye out for Kitt, I too him out of his cage.”
“Alright,” Valor said as she crossed the room.
Scorpius swiveled in the desk chair he sat in. “Ready to talk to me?”
“Not really.” She sat crossed leg on the floor.
“If you’re not angry with me, is it you and Al?”
“No, Al and I are fine.” Valor twisted the loose ends of the fat braid hanging over her shoulder. “Okay, so, when we went to the Ministry, I saw something and since then I’ve been thinking how I would tell you – if I would tell you.”
“What did you see?” he asked with underlying dread simply because if his sister held something this long, it couldn’t be good.
“All right…I saw some guy kiss Rose. And before you say there were a lot of people at the Ministry and it could have been anyone, Albus saw them too.”
“That’s why the Stooge routine?”
“Who?”
“Never mind,” he muttered. “It’s why you were so weird?”
“Yes.”
Scorpius went back to his books, picking up his quill. “Okay, thanks for telling me.”
Valor slowly got to her feet. “’Okay, thanks for telling me’? That’s all you’ve got to say? All you’re going to do? I agonized over two days about this and all you’ve –“
“Val, I appreciate your telling me. Thank you.” He glanced at his sister as she stood outraged. “Val, it’s fine. Well not fine, but I do appreciate the loyalty.”
Much of the red drained from Valor’s face as she turned to go. She got to the door and spun back. “You’ve got an excuse to get her out of all of this. That’s why you aren’t bothered by this, isn’t it?”
Carefully, Scorpius placed his quill in the ink pot and looked at his sister. “Make no mistake, I’m bloody p.issed about this but many things need to be factored.”
“More than your girlfriend cheating?”
“You saw some guy kiss her, it could be one sided, Val. Rose would say if it meant something to her. Remember I did when I kissed her but was seeing Fiona.” He looked away and then down at his ink-stained fingers. “And you’re right, I can use this as a way to remove her from my life and this mess we’re trying to fix.”
“Martyr-ism doesn’t fit you, big brother. Instead of throwing yourself on the sword, you should tell her in no uncertain term to butt out.”
“And how’s that working for you and Al?”
She grinned. “That’s Albus and me – it’s our thing.”
“Yeah, okay.”
“Scor, I’m sorry.”
He nodded and Valor quietly closed the door behind her as she left.
*
“You’re not sticking around today either?”
Scorpius paused with a glass of juice to his lips. He took the last swallow and shook his head answering his mother. “No, ma’am. Did you need me for something?”
“No, I was just taking note of everyone’s movements. Geoffrey’s spending the day with friends. Valor’s got practice over at the theatre, and your father’s at the office today.”
Nodding Scorpius said, “I need to run out for a bit, I should be back in an hour or so.”
“That’s fine. I’ll see you then.”
He studied Cythera. “Mama, are you all right?”
She smiled. “I’m great.”
“Are you ready to talk about what we discussed last week?”
Cythera shook her head quickly. “Oh, no, not just yet. Your dad’s busy at the moment, but I promise, we’ll sit and talk before you and Valor return to Hogwarts.”
“Okay.” Before he left he gave his mother a peck to the cheek. “Later.”
“Bye, sweetheart.”
*
“Sir, your son is here to see you.”
Draco glanced up at his assistant as she placed another stack of scrolls on his desk. “Scorpius?”
Gracie grinned. “Well, Alex isn’t walking properly just yet to get here on his own, so it’s safe to say, yes, Scorpius.”
“Just send him in, Grace.”
“Yes, sir.” She stood to the side holding the door open. “Scorpius, your father’s free.”
“Thanks, Gracie.”
She nodded and stepped out, closing the door.
“Scorpius, you rarely ever visit my office, is something the matter?”
“A number of things, but we can get into that later,” Scorpius murmured, turning away from the bank of windows to take a seat in one of the chairs facing his father’s desk.
“Scorpius –“
“Dad, I told Mama something some days ago and I shouldn’t have because it’s bothering her a great deal more than she originally let on. If I could, I would have kept my mouth shut.”
“What did you tell her?”
“That’s just it, I can’t tell you just yet because she’s said we should discuss it as a family.”
“What bothers your mother, bothers me, son. And I’ve noticed she’s been off stride…since you’re telling me this I could simply go to Cythera and demand she tell me so that I might fix –“
“That’s just it, Dad, this is really big and not easily fixed.”
Draco exhaled. “I figured as much from your mother’s behavior. Listen, why don’t you make sure everyone’s home tonight, and we’ll have a discussion. Get everything in the open and possible solutions because,” Draco continued quickly as Scorpius started to interrupt. “Every problem has a solution, no matter the problem.”
“I hope you’re right, Dad.”
“That’s very dark.”
“The problem’s very dark,” Scorpius said, getting to his feet. “Tonight, Dad.”
Draco nodded. “See you, son.”
“Later.”
When his son left, Draco was very tempted to contact his wife, but came to the conclusion that whatever the problem was, it could wait a few more hours.
*
“Scor?”
Scorpius craned his neck to see over his shoulder as his sister came down the steps and broke away from the other musicians exiting the building with her.
“Hey,” he said as she sat beside him. “You guys sounded great.”
“You came in?”
“Yeah, for a bit. Sat in the balcony where the director couldn’t see me.”
Valor placed her case on the step below at her feet. “Why?”
“I can’t come hear my little sister play?”
“I meant why aren’t you at the Ministry?”
He shook his head. “I couldn’t go, so I came to kill time, and see if I could escort you home.”
“You don’t want to know, do you?” she asked softly.
Watching people pass by, Scorpius shook his head. “No one wants to know if the person they’re in love with may be falling for another. And as I said last night, things may not be what you and Al saw. Rose isn’t that…deceitful.”
“You shouldn’t draw this out, Scor.”
“I shouldn’t, but it’ll have to wait. We’re telling Mama and Dad tonight. Dad’s made a mandatory family meeting.”
“You told Dad too?”
“No.” He looked at his sister’s disbelieving expression and repeated, “No, I didn’t tell him, Val. This morning I ran into Mama before I left for the Ministry, and I felt an overwhelming sadness in her. It was unlike anything I’ve ever felt. My heart – I should never have told her the way I did.”
“She gave you no choice.”
“There is always a choice. I’ve always been able to talk Mama, no matter the subject.”
Valor nodded in agreement. “She’s the backbone of the family.”
“She is,” he agreed. “But I think this is what could break her.” He continued watching people and without looking at his sister, he said, “Please don’t start crying or if you do, do it and get it all out because we have got to be calm and firm when we talk tonight.”
He looked at Valor then. She fought her tears until he gathered her close. As she cried on his shoulder, he rested his head on hers waiting her out. He tilted his head up when a shadow fell over them. A woman, seemingly young, but with a head of blindingly white hair and smooth brown skin stood over them.
“Is she all right, dear?”
Scorpius paused but eventually nodded. “Yes, ma’am. She, er, got a bit of stressing news, is all.”
“Oh, well, it’ll turn out, dear,” the woman said. She reached out and before Scorpius could stop her, patted Valor’s shoulder.
Scorpius watched the woman for as long as he could but she was swallowed up by the crowd. He grimaced and looked down where Valor clutched his shirt.
With wet eyes, she looked around. “Who was that?”
Shaking himself, Scorpius loosened his sister’s grip on him. “I don’t know. She saw you crying –“
“She was a witch, Scor.” Wiping her eyes, Valor looked around again, this time in the direction Scorpius had been watching. “A powerful one.”
“What?”
“She touched me and I felt her. You had to have too because you tensed, I felt you do it right before she touched me. What’d she look like?”
“She…” Scorpius’s voice trailed away. “Let’s get out of the open. I don’t feel right being here.”
Valor gathered her case and satchel, stumbling when Scorpius yanked her in the opposite direction the strange woman had gone. He led her quickly through the crowd to the nearest tub station. He warned her to hold tight as he Disapparated from the station to the deserted road leading to their house.
“Why didn’t you take us home?”
“I needed open space to make sure we weren’t followed,” he told her, looking around. “That woman was creepy, Val.”
“She felt creepy,” Valor murmured, rubbing the arm the woman had touched.
They were sure they weren’t followed by the time they walked up the path to the house.
Scorpius paused before opening the door and looked at his sister. “I think we had our first encounter with Camara.”
Valor’s mouth dropped open before she could stop herself. She recovered quick enough to step into the house behind her brother, and running up the stairs to catch up with him. She dumped her things in a nearby chair.
“But she’s early, why would she be here early?”
“I don’t know, Val. Possibly she knows we know?”
“How?”
“I don’t know.”
“If she’s here, do you think she’ll try for Mama and Dad sooner?”
“I DON’T KNOW!” Scorpius watched his sister sink to the rug. “Sorry for shouting, but I don’t know what this…woman is thinking. I mean we’ve only just learned anything about her.” He went over to Kitt’s cage and opened the door. He stroked the rat’s fur thoughtfully before reaching into the jar on the desk and giving Kitt a carrot from it. “We need to move faster because if she’s got a plan, we’re all dead.”
“What could she want besides our parents dead? Or us?”
Scorpius watched Kitt take his treat and climb to the top of the book case to enjoy it. Scorpius sat in the empty chair. “She doesn’t want us dead,” he said slowly.
“What?”
He looked over at his sister. “If she wanted us dead, she could have taken us today. Also, we wouldn’t be in Alex and Sephy’s future.”
They sat in silence for a time until Scorpius slapped himself on the forehead. “What is it?”
“I know what she wants,” he said.
