I don't know about anyone else, but I loved how he has changed through all of the books, and in this one I think he definitely deserves to be recognised as the leader of Dumbledore's Army and at least one of it's General's. How at the end he fulfils Harry's 'final' request to kill Nagini and defies Voldemort, how proud his Grandmother is of him when she enters Hogwarts and upon asking where he is Harry informs her Neville is fighting and she says something along the lines of, "well of course he is."
"You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?" called Voldemort, his scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. "Above such brutality, are you?"
"We both know there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom." Dumbledore said calmly. "Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit – "

Speaking of which, how did Neville get the Gryffyndor sword? Last I heard, Griphook had it and then all of a sudden, before I knew so, Neville was chopping the snake's head off with it? I missed something

But yeah, Neville is a sweetheart. I love how he got braver and braver. The kid was a freaking fighter.

The same way Harry got it I think, just being a true Gryffindor. How miffed would Griphook have been when he found out the sword was gone.

I'm glad JK didn't make Neville this shy, wimpy little boy throughout the books cause he is one of my fav characters!
But i also thought that is he was in Griffindor, he must have bravery in him and it finally showed in DH! !!!
Whatever...

Neville definitely made a dramatic 360 in the Deathly Hallows. It wasn't a total 360 though, because I believe that the previous books were leading up to this. But here, with the Trio gone from Hogwarts, and Snape as Headmaster, you really see him take on some true leadership. I believe that it was very fitting that Harry asked him to kill the snake for him, and he did it swiftly without hesitation. Even though you had to know that he was devastated at seeing Harry "dead".

I was a little dissappointed that he was not the one to kill Bellatrix, but it's fitting when you think about it, as we never saw any of the young kids really "kill" anyone. Not vicsciously and intentionally anyway. I don't think Neville ever wanted to learn how to use the cruscateous curse or avada kedvra, even if Crabb and Goyle were using the curses like they were going out of style.

I also liked that his grandmother finally was proud of her son. I loved that scene where Neville said that the death eaters went to go after her, and we're under the impression that she would have been easy to over-power as she's a little old lady who lives by herself, and the death eater found out that he was sorely mistaken. Hehehe. That was great!
What Luna Sees~~My very first attempt at fanfiction. It has turned into my own version of DH, though with a much different spin on it. Enjoy everybody!

I thought that Neville was awesome in Deathly Hallows. He truly became his own person, taking over leadership of the DA and causing trouble for the Carrows. I loved the part when Grandma Longbottom arrives in the Room of Requirement and she asks where Neville is, and she replies "of course he is", and she scurries off to help him. I smiled a great smile when I read that.

I've liked him throughout the series, so It was great that he finally got to prove himself ^_^

When I started reading HP, I and 11-year-old Neville were surprisingly alike (I'm sure I would've forgotten to get the hat off after the sorting too...), that was why I started to like him so much, I could relate to him more than to anyone else in the book... and that makes me extra glad now when he's changed so much and got to prove himself at last. And I, too, loved when his grandmother comes to the Room of Requirement ^^
Did not!

Neville was unbelievable in DH, I think the courage was always there, hidden inside but it finally surfaced when Harry left Hogwarts. I've always liked and pitied Neville but now I like and admire him. I always knew that his day would come though. Firstly because everyone was always wondering why he had been sorted into Gryffindor, even Neville himself. So JKR had to prove that the Sorting Hat hadn't been wrong after all. And secondly because Ron or Hermione finishing off the snake wouldn't have created such a great effect as Neville finishing it off.

oh i was so proud of neville, to be honest i always knew there was something in him, i knew he was going to play a big part in this story. desrtoying his very own horcrux. i agree with others that he pulled the sword out of the hat because he had proven himself as a true griffindor. i suppose anyone who needed the sword it would go to and griphook was just going to be a realy ticked off goblin. i almost wish that neville had got bellatrix as well though, but i was plesently surprised by molly/ woop
"I'm not worried, Harry," said Dumbledore. "I am with you."

It was fitting that Neville was finally showing his true colors. He was showing more confidence little by little. In GOF when he was practicing his dancing, and then in OOTP practicing with D.A. But also, according to the prophecy where it mentions a child born on the 7th month and so forth, and it mentions that Voldemort would mark the child that would eventually kill him or something to that effect.....weren't they refering to both Harry and Neville, until Voldemort came and tried to kill Harry's parents and marked him - which sealed the prophesy to Harry ? Then that means that Neville could of been part of the prophecy if Voldemort would of marked him instead, so it makes sense that Neville had this hidden strength and confidence. Plus the fact that his parents fought against Voldemort and his Death Eaters before they got hurt (it's in his blood). I thought it was perfect that Neville fought with such bravery in DH.

Defenitely, because Neville killed the last horcrux (if you don't include Harry, who Voldemort took care of himself.) So he pretty much sealed the deal and Voldemort's back-up method of survival was destroyed  Neville helped kill Voldy yayyy. He was kickass.

I really loved Neville, he acted like a real hero. He took the mission Harry left him with bravery and he did exactly what he had to, he was ready to die for everything he believed and he is one of those people who understood the mission Harry had.
I liked too his grandmother, he gain all her respect...

Oh sweet Neville! He is truly a character that I feel is probably the most complex of the minor characters. His story is so interesting. And to think that it could have been him and not Harry facing Tom! I wonder what would have happened had Tom marked Neville instead...so many possibilities....

At any rate...I loved his tranformation. But to some extent Neville has always been brave. He's always had a touch spirit even though he was wasn't the best a magic and was picked on a lot. Neville has always had a bit of gangsta in him...but it all came out in The Lost Diadem. I was cheering so loudly for him as I read.

I was great how Neville progressed throughout the series from being from a kid who couldn't keep track of his toad to a Gryffindor who killed Voldemort's most closely guarded Horcrux. You can't help but be amazed at Neville's progression throughout the series.

Hey its the Neville Appreciation Thread! XD

I've adored Neville...anyone recall in PS/SS he finds Fluffy with the trio? That set off some kind of bells in my head that he was important. Oh, I still tear up every time he wins the house cup for Gryffindor his first year with his 10 points. I think he really started progressing rapidly into growing into his Gryffindor-ness in OotP, when he becomes really determined to learn the spells in the DA. I also sooo loved that he came to help in HBP. His story is possibly more moving to me than Harry's, even, because Neville's overcoming a huge amount of self doubt...not that Harry was ever arrogant as Snape said, but he didn't seem to ever suffer quite like poor Neville.

Thank you JKR for giving Neville his moment of glory!!

"The green earth, say you? That is a mighty matter of legend," said Aragorn, "though you tread it under the light of day!"

It's quite possible that if LV had marked Neville as his equal, LV's fall from power might have been quicker than it was in the LV-Harry scenario. Seriously, think: given the opportunity, Neville turns into a hard-core fighter... a real get-the-job-done person. Look how he slices (SPOILER!) Nagini in two without even thinking! He probably would have seeked LV out and finished him way faster than Harry and Co.!

(Or he might have gotten himself killed quicker... one or the other!)

Did anyone notice the poetic justice for Neville?

After years of being insulted and humiliated by Snape (who thought he wasn't up to much in the way of a wizard), it was Neville who killed Snape's killer, and in a sense, avenged his murder.

Yay Neville!

Good point, there, Potterfiend!
JKR did say Neville got the sword the same way as Harry in CoS, as a Griffindor who asks for help and Griphook was wrong, it was NOT a Goblin-made sword, so it came straight to Neville.
And it's poetic justice that Neville should avenge Snape's life, too.
Although he doesn't realize he's doing it at the time.
And Neville was the other Wiazard born at the end of July, as per the Prophesy, LV just chose HP. That doesn't make Neville any less a powerful Wizard and a force to be reconded with. Everybody ( including NL, himself ) underestimated him, much to their grief, as it turned out.
so...HA! take that LV, little Neville showed YOU, didn't he!
